About Uzi

Well being and happiness are based in how we make meaning of our lives. Integrity and resilience of the body support emotional health, infuse us with vitality and inspire us to fulfill our potential.

It was in my 64th year that I enrolled at Southwest University of Naprapathic Medicine, aspiring to broaden the services I’d offered since 1999 as a professional practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu Acupressure.

Before this, I received my BFA with Honors from San Francisco State University and, in 1991, a Masters in Fine Arts (Filmmaking) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Studying art showed me there are trails to walk in life without knowing ‘why’. There is value beyond reason. As my identity expanded, I joined the diversity of this nation, proudly becoming a US citizen in 2001.

Early Life Biography

Growing up on a kibbutz (a member-run, democratic community in Israel), I was nurtured by a close community and developed skills of collaboration. Working in our fields from age 13, I understood respect for the Earth and our relationship to the soil and land.

In the army I experienced camaraderie, as well as the horror of having and being enemies. Serving as commander of 80 soldiers taught me responsibility and leadership. Leaving my community at age 29 for Pt. Barrow, Alaska exercised my need for adventure. Being a foreigner showed me what it feels like to be “The Other”.

San Francisco Years

Owning and operating a business that maintained and repaired boats in the San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years gave me independence and the satisfaction of providing for other families as an employer. I worked alongside my employees on the docks daily and pioneered environmental services for boat owners, improving the bay’s water quality.

Uzi & Cynthia Broshi, Hummingbird Integrative Health, Santa Fe, NM

My workboat, a small, shiny and powerful tug, was named Hummingbird.

Meeting my wife-to-be and her daughter taught me how to love beyond what I knew before. The life of Cynthia’s daughter, Lucy, was shortened by a genetic illness, and I was honored to share their last years together. Her journey taught me about vulnerability and how much Life is to be loved. When my stepdaughter became a mother, and when I became my goddaughter’s compadre, I experienced how deep and broad family can be.

Jin Shin Jyutsu

Bringing Holistic Wellness To Others

Cynthia introduced me to the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu Acupressure. Studying Jin Shin Jyutsu opened my awareness to a Creation beyond the physical and the seen. I’ve now practiced Jin Shin Jyutsu for 25 years, giving hands-on sessions and assisting in seminars throughout the U.S., in Canada, Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In India I’ve worked with special needs kids and their mothers, giving sessions and training the moms to use Jin Shin Jyutsu for their children.

Helping others to heal themselves brings me joy.

Mary Burmeister, who brought Jin Shin Jyutsu to the West, said, “Age is as Circulation is”. After decades of physical labor I found, in my late ‘40s, new flexibility (balance between energetic and muscular aspects of being) through yoga.

Regular exercise (yoga, cycling, running and hiking), in tandem with daily Jin Shin Jyutsu self-care, eradicated a health issue for which I’d been told I’d always need medication.

Naprapathy

Naprapathy has taught me about the amazing design of our body’s anatomy and biomechanics and hands-on techniques that speak directly to the body’s ability to correct, rehabilitate and regenerate.

My aspiration is to serve each client’s fulfillment of their potential by improving the quality of their life.
